I ran across One True Print on the Orphan Black Facebook group; Clone Club-ers should check it out! Upon entering her site I saw Orphan Black graphics! I was home! Dig a little deeper and there’s Game of Thrones as well! A girl after my heart! The One True Print web store allows Amanda (the owner) to create graphics and sell them as items such as iPhone cases, shirts, mugs, and more! I myself have ordered the Orphan Black Sarah Manning iPhone case (pictured below)! Read on to hear a little more about Amanda, her store, and the Orphan Black giveaway!
“My name is Amanda Leigh Corbett, and I’m a twenty one year old actress, graphic designer, and fangirl. I just recently finished a conservatory program in New York, and now that I have some free time, I decided to open my store, One True Print. OTP is run through Society6, and has everything from phone cases to onesies! I primarily focus on fan art for Orphan Black, Game of Thrones, and Harry Potter. It’s been a great way for me to combine my passions for film, television, and graphic design. I’m hoping to be able to expand and include even more fandom’s in the near future.
I’ve been creating fan art for quite some time, but became really inspired again when I began watching Orphan Black. It’s such an incredible show, and one of the things that makes me love it so much is the fact that it shows all of these women as multidimensional people that don’t fit into the narrow archetypes you see most women falling into on television now a days. As a viewer, it’s nice to see characters that in many different ways, I am able to relate to. And as a young actress, it gives me hope I won’t always be playing the girlfriend. While I have a soft spot for all of the clones for different reasons, my favorite is definitely Alison Hendrix, who often brings humor to the show. She’s also a character that I just find really heartbreaking. She’s the character that clicked for me and I can relate to the most. Not that I’ve ever hit anyone over the head with a golf club or anything like that.”
1. What’s your favorite piece you’ve ever made?
That’s a tough one! I’ve made loads of things over the years, but I guess most recently my favorite is the Helena piece with the blood splatters all over it. I also have a major soft spot for one of the very first pieces I made specifically for the store, which is the ‘Faceless’ Alison Hendrix print.
2. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Different colors and shapes inspire me all the time, but also music when I’m working tends to have a pretty big influence in what direction I go with a piece. And obviously, the shows themselves provide tons of inspiration!
3. You’re obviously a fan of Orphan Black & Game of Thrones, what made you decide to pick those shows to do merch for?
You know, they’re both shows that I really enjoy, and the imagery of those shows is just really beautiful and inspiring to look at, and so that’s definitely a big part of why I chose those two series. But also, they are two fandoms that I feel really involved in, and I wanted to be able to be creating new pieces as the shows are growing and changing. The Clone Club has become a pretty big part of my life recently, it’s truly a community and I’ve made so many new friends because of this amazing show that’s brought us all together. So, paying tribute to that is important to me. With Game of Thrones, the characters are just so epic. And both shows have this wonderful way of not putting any character in ‘good’ or ‘bad’ territory. Everyone’s a different shade of grey, and I’ve found shows that have characters that are that layered and have all of those complexities are the shows that I enjoy the most, and I think they’re ultimately shows that us viewers connect with the most.
4. What’s your most popular piece?
Right now, the most popular piece in my store is from “The Riddle” series. It’s the print that features Cosima’s glasses. Cosima graphics tend to be pretty popular!
5. How do you come up with your designs?
To be honest, I don’t have much of a set process. I always have photoshop running in the background of what I’m doing, and then I may be browsing and come across an image that I like and want to incorporate some how. Often times pieces that start as one thing turn into something completely different after fiddling around for a while. They can take me anywhere from twenty minutes to going on three hours. It just depends on how complex the piece is, and how indecisive I’m feeling on that day.
6. How long have you been doing this? And graphics in general?
I only started up my store a few weeks ago. But I’ve been dabbling in graphic design as a hobby for going on ten years now! It’s a wonderful outlet and I find it really relaxing and enjoyable. So it’s something I hope to continue to do for a long time!
